Stream My iTunes supports DRM Content for iOS Devices

Some content in your iTunes library that you have purchased from the iTunes Store may be protected by Apple's copy protection software called DRM (Digital Rights Management) or FairPlay. This protection encrypts the data within your media files preventing it being played outside of iTunes.

iHomeServer, the technology behind Stream My iTunes, supports playback of your media on a wide variety of Apple and non-Apple devices however, for legal reasons, DRM protected media will only stream to iOS devices that are linked to the same Apple account that purchased the media. Please see below for instructions on how to do this.

The Good News!

The good news it that pretty much every music track purchased from the iTunes Store since 2009 has been DRM free. Therefore the majority of music in people's collections will stream just fine to most devices - Apple and non-Apple alike!

Playing DRM Content on your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch

Stream My iTunes lets you stream your DRM media purchased from the iTunes Store to iOS devices (iPhones, iPads, iPods) over the internet. However, for this to work, you must link your iOS device to the same Apple ID that was used to purchase the original content.

The guide below shows you how:

1. Ensure your iPad's iTunes account is the same as the iTunes account on the computer running iTunes

Choose 'Settings' from your phone's menu, then tap 'iTunes & App Store'

If you have not set an Apple ID, then tap 'Apple ID' to set it.

2. Test streaming via Stream My iTunes / iHomeServer
3. If streaming still does not work, you may need to reauthorise your device with Apple by following these steps:
  • Open the Videos app on your iPhone
  • Tap the 'Store' button
  • Tap the 'Purchased' button
  • Start to download any item you have purchased
  • Cancel the download
